Strategic
Air Command
Bases
|
|
|
This section contains a web page for
each air base used by the Strategic Air Command. Most of them
were assigned to the command and are thus considered "SAC Bases."
SAC units were often assigned to other bases and these are also
listed. For information regarding SAC base site selection
standards, etc,
See
Base Introduction. Also see
our new Welcome
Page
Some interesting facts. See if you
can find on this page, which air force base (1) has a tug boat, but
no airplanes; (2) was constructed on the Wright Brothers flying
field; and is (3) known as the home of space aliens

About this Summary |
Bases that are now active with former SAC units
are listed first. An icon represents its weapons system - B-52, B-1, B-2, Minuteman and Peacekeepers. This is
followed by the bases that were once used by SAC. (You can't look at
this list without realizing how little is left). The bases in each
section are listed in alphabetical order. The
base name provides a link to the page for that base. Many bases have
undergone name changes. Earlier names are shown in italics
followed by the newer name. The summary provide location, SAC wings
that served at the base, current status and applicable links. |
About the Individual base pages
There is one at least one page for each base.
The goal is to provide a comprehensive
overview of the base, with emphasis on its role in SAC. In most
cases, these pages contain all of the information that we have been able
to obtain. It is sometimes sparse. This is generally true when the
base closed many years ago. We've been adding photos as we have been
able to find them.
Contributions Solicited.
We really need help on
this section. If you have any information on a base it would be
appreciated. We especially want more photographs.
SAC didn't allow cameras on its bases, so individual photos are scare. Many bases
and wings published year books and many companies produced post cards of
bases. If you have any of these, please send us a scan.
Be sure to include a caption and the approximate year of the photo. |
