Activation
     Established as the 416th Bombardment Wing, Heavy, and activated Feb. 1, 1963 at Griffiss AFB, New York, where it replaced and absorbed the 4039th Strategic Wing.  It conducted strategic bombardment training and air refueling operations on a global scale to meet SAC commitments.  
Vietnam
   Supported SAC operations in the Far East and Southeast Asia with tankers and crews from December 1964 to December 1975 and with B-52 crews from June 1968 -1975.  Assumed host wing responsibility at Griffiss AFB, NY on July 1, 1970
Status
     Later became the 416th Wing, otherwise status unknown.
Components
668 BS: Assigned Feb. 1, 1963 - Dec. 1994.   On activation, it acquired the B-52Gs previously flown by
        the 75 BS, 4039th Strategic Wing.  Operated them until converting to B-52H in 1994.  Transferred
        last two of the B-52Hs to the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB on Nov. 15, 1994 in preparation for
        inactivation.
