Activation
      Established as 392nd Bombardment Wing, Light on May 16, 1949. Activated in the reserves at Barksdale AFB , then inactivated, all in 1949.   Redesigned the 392nd Fighter-Day Wing on March 23, 1953, base not known.
     Redesignated the 392nd Strategic Missile Wing, activated and assigned at the Strategic Air Command on Oct. 6, 1961. Assigned to Vandenberg AFB on October 20 to December 20, 1961.
Missile Training
     The 392nd was formed to train crews to launch Atlas, Titan and Minuteman missiles. The unit was short lived, as it was eliminated by the reorganization of the 1st Strategic Aerospace Division.
Status
     Inactivated December 20, 1961.
