Activation
     Established as the 376th Bombardment Wing, Medium, on May 25, 1951. Activated on June 1, 1951 at Forbes AFB, Kansas. Moved to Barksdale AFB on October 10, 1951.
B-29 Superfortress
     Trained in strategic bombardment using B-29s from 1951 to 1954
Stratojets and ECM
      Bombardment operations were soon overshadowed by electronic counter measures operations, which became the wing's primary mission in September 1953. The 376th began flying B-47s and EB-47s from 1954 to 1965. Flew the esoteric E-47 from 1958 to 1961. From 1962 until February 1965, it conducted EB-47 Post Attack Command and Control operations. Conducted air refueling operations September,
1953 to June, 1964. Discontinued and inactivated March 15, 1965.
Vietnam
     Redesignated 376th Strategic Wing on Jan 23, 1970 and activated April 1, 1970 at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa (later Japan), where it replaced the 4252nd Strategic Wing. It Conducted B-52 combat operations in Southeast Asia from April to Sept 1970, when Arc Light Missions from the base were terminated.
       It also conducted air refueling and electronic reconnaissance from April 1970 to 1973. It conducted airborne radio relay operations, April - Nov 1970, Feb- Jun 1971 and March 1972 - August 1973.
