Activation:
     The 26th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Medium, was established on 9 May 1952, and activated on 28 May 1952 at Lockbourne AFB, Ohio, and was assigned to Second Air Force, 801st Air Division, but it was unmanned until January 1953.  
Mission
       The 26th It maintained
proficiency in strategic reconnaissance from January 1953 to April of 1958 and in aerial refueling from May 1952 to April, 1955 and August through April of 1958.  It was not operational from April 1 through July 1, 1958.
Equipment
     The 26th initially flew B-47s, YRB-47s, KC-97s. In 1954, it added RB-47s.  It lost its tankers from April 1955 until August of 1958.
Status
     Inactivated 1 Jul 1958.  Reactivated as the 26th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing 19 April 1965.
