Startup - 1944 - 1946. SAC is formed. Assigned 15th Air
Force. First 10 Bomb Groups. 8 inactivated.
Then assigned 8th Air
Force. Groups are flying B-29s |
Reorganization -
1947 - The Air Force is established as a separate branch of the military
Hobson Reorganization Plan put into
effect. The Wing becomes SAC's
basic operating unit |
